Bee Programs

The Buzz about Bees
(Grade K-5)

Children are fascinated by insects. This hands-on, educational science program will ignite the excitement of learning by combining audience participation, music and props while describing honey bees and their vital role in the world. Learn about bee biology, the workings of a beehive and the importance of pollination.

 

Hands-on activities include:

  • Honey Tasting

  • Bee Body Parts Puzzle

  • Bee Biology with Microscopes

  • Metamorphosis Game

  • Bee a Beekeeper

  • Pollination Fun and Games

  • Products of the Hive

  • Bee Puppets

  • Comb Rubbings

 

Optional: Rolling Beeswax Candles ($.40 per student for supplies)

 

Program Schedule

The program can be easily adjusted for your specific needs. Here are two sample schedules for a full day program.

 

Assembly followed by activities for third grade classrooms.

8:30 – 9:15      Assembly program for up to 275 students.

9:30 – 10:00    Class hands-on activities

10:30 – 11:00  Class hands-on activities

11:00 – 11:30  Class hands-on activities

11:30 – 12:30  Lunch, clean up and restock activities

12:30 – 1:00    Class hands-on activities      

1:00 – 1:30      Class hands-on activities

1:30 – 2:00      Class hands-on activities

2:00 – 2:30      Class hands-on activities

2:30 – 3:00      Class hands-on activities

 

 

Two assemblies followed by activities for second grade classrooms.

Program Details

Program set up takes at least 45 minutes.

Needs for the assembly:

  • a table

  • projector and computer to play a DVD. No need for sound.

Needs for the activities:

  • All activities need to be in the same location for the day.

  • About 6 tables (We can work with the space you have.)

All of Your Beeswax
Tweens, Teens, and Adults

Learn about bees and experience the many uses of beeswax. Activities include making lip balm, rolled candles, encaustic painting, honey tasting, microscopes, and products of the beehive.
